Your guide to living, studying and discovering Milan.

Your new city. Your new community. Your Milan experience.

Welcome to Milan! If you’re joining the MIB – Master in International Business at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, you’re about to experience one of Italy’s most dynamic and international cities. Located in the heart of Milan, the Cattolica campus is surrounded by historic architecture, charming neighbourhoods, cafés, restaurants and some of the city’s most interesting cultural attractions. But where should you go between classes? How do you get around? Where can you grab an affordable lunch or meet your classmates after a long day?

We’ve put together this guide to help you navigate your new surroundings, discover the best of Milan and make the most of your time as an MIB student.

Let’s make Milan feel like home.

01. YOUR CAMPUS AREA

Welcome to Sant’Ambrogio.

Your MIB experience begins in the heart of Milan, around Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. The university campus extends across several historic buildings in the Sant’Ambrogio area, with the MIB team based at Via Necchi 5. This is one of the most beautiful and convenient areas of central Milan: a mix of university life, historic landmarks, independent cafés and lively streets.

Here are some places you’ll soon get to know:

  • Via Necchi & Largo Gemelli: the academic heart of the Cattolica campus.
  • Piazza Sant’Ambrogio: home to the beautiful Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio and a central meeting point.
  • Corso Magenta: a lovely street connecting the university area to Cadorna, full of historic buildings and cultural attractions.
  • Via San Vittore: a lively university neighbourhood with cafés and places to stop between classes.
  • Via Nirone: another part of the university campus, just a short walk away.

Student tip: Take some time to explore the university neighbourhood on foot. You’ll quickly discover that some of your favourite places will be just around the corner from your classroom.

02. GETTING AROUND

Your everyday transport guide.

The good news? The MIB campus is extremely well connected.

The Metro

There are two particularly useful metro stations for your daily commute:

  • Sant’Ambrogio (M2 Green Line & M4 Blue Line): the closest and most convenient station for the main campus area. M4 also connects directly to Linate Airport.
  • Cadorna (M1 Red Line & M2 Green Line): an important interchange and railway station, particularly useful if you’re travelling across Milan or arriving from Malpensa Airport.

  • Trams and Buses

Milan’s historic trams are part of the city’s identity and a great way to explore it. Tram lines 12, 14, 16 and 19 serve areas around the university campus, while buses provide additional connections.

    Tickets and Payments

You can purchase tickets through the official ATM Milano app, at metro station vending machines or use contactless payment with a compatible bank card or digital wallet.

For regular commuting, consider getting a monthly public transport pass.

    Arriving in Milan
    • Linate Airport (LIN): take the M4 Blue Line directly to Sant’Ambrogio.
    • Malpensa Airport (MXP): take the Malpensa Express train to Milano Cadorna, then walk or take the M2 to Sant’Ambrogio.
    • Bergamo Airport (BGY): shuttle buses connect the airport to Milano Centrale, from where you can take the M2 towards Sant’Ambrogio.

Student tip: Download the ATM Milano app before arriving. It will quickly become one of your most useful everyday tools.

    03. COFFEE, LUNCH & STUDY BREAKS

    Your new neighbourhood favourites.

Between lectures, group projects and Business Talks, you’ll need a few favourite places to recharge.

Here are some suggestions around the MIB campus:

For a quick coffee or breakfast
    • Caffè Carducci: a traditional neighbourhood café on Via San Vittore, ideal for your morning espresso.
    • GustaMi Bakery: a convenient stop for pastries, coffee and something savoury.
    • Crumb Snack & Café: a small coffee shop on Via Lanzone for a quick breakfast or snack.
    For lunch
    • Mensa&Pizza.9 – Via Necchi 9: the university’s own dining option, convenient for a quick and more budget-conscious lunch. Check current access and meal-ticket arrangements.
    • Niro Meet Bar – Via Nirone: a casual option for lunch and a coffee break.
    • Elegant Coffee – Via Olona: a café-bistrot with breakfast, lunch and spaces suitable for working.
    For an afternoon break
    • Barcollando Café: a relaxed neighbourhood stop for coffee, drinks and something to eat.
    • The streets around Piazza Sant’Ambrogio: perfect for taking a walk and getting some fresh air between study sessions.

Student tip: Don’t underestimate the value of a good coffee break. Some of the best connections with your classmates will happen outside the classroom!

    04. WHERE TO STUDY

    Beyond the classroom.

Sometimes you need a quiet place to concentrate, prepare a presentation or work on a group project.

Fortunately, the university area offers several options.

    Università Cattolica’s Libraries

The university has several libraries and study spaces. The Economics Library at Via Necchi 5 is particularly relevant to MIB students. Check opening times, access requirements and seat reservations before visiting.

    Mensa&Pizza.9

The university dining area at Via Necchi 9 also provides study-space opportunities outside meal times, subject to current arrangements.

    Campus Courtyards

The historic Cattolica campus is full of beautiful architectural spaces. Enjoy its atmosphere during breaks and discover the famous cloisters.

Student tip: Check the university’s official library services and study-space information for updated opening hours and access rules.

    05. EXPLORE YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

A few minutes from campus, a whole city awaits.

One of the best things about studying at Cattolica is how close you are to some of Milan’s most beautiful areas.

    Sant’Ambrogio & San Vittore

Your everyday neighbourhood. Explore the Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio, the surrounding streets and the Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci.

    Corso Magenta

One of Milan’s most elegant streets. Discover historic palaces, traditional cafés and Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Last Supper.

    Colonne di San Lorenzo

A favourite meeting point for young people. The ancient Roman columns and surrounding bars create one of the city’s liveliest social atmospheres, particularly in the evening.

    Navigli & Darsena

A little further south, but easily reachable on foot or by public transport. This is where you’ll discover Milan’s famous aperitivo culture, canals, restaurants and nightlife.

    Parco Sempione & Castello Sforzesco

Perfect for a walk, a picnic or a relaxing afternoon outdoors. A beautiful green space right in the centre of the city.
